We're trying to figure out why the tractor won't start. Tomorrow, we're replacing the starter because it got really hot after about 5 sec of cranking. We were trying to see if fuel was reaching the injectors. When cranking, fuel flows from all three lines. It's not a very forceful ejection, certainly no where near enough power to penetrate skin - more of a trickle really. How much force would you expect the fuel to come out with when cranking the engine? Hoping the pump isn't shot.
Uh, do you have the injectors pulled out, or are you judging from the fuel coming out of the open lines? I would expect a little to spit out of each line if they're open, the injection needs pressure which isn't there if the line is open. 5 seconds getting a starter warm is a completely cooked starter, don't worry about the fuel side until the starter works.
My 3 cylinder ford 201 just barely piddles out fuel when I crack the injector tube fittings open at the injectors during cranking. But it starts and runs great.
Ok, thanks. We didn't pull the injectors because the top of the engine is covered with grime and we have no way of cleaning it off where it is right now. Picking up a new starter at Carquest today.
