New to backhoes and just found this site and hoping someone out there can give me a little direction. Unloader circuit on the transmission is not working. Pulled the solenoid and the end plug seal to remove the spool valve. Spool valve seems to be in pretty good shape. Hooked up the solenoid up on the bench and it pulls in (retracts back in the solenoid about 1/8 inch. From looking at the repair manual I can't tell just how far it needs to move or if it is suppose to possibly push. Anyone got any ideas if the solenoid is bad or how far it should retract? Anyone also know where I might start looking to find one? Thanks in advance.
Go to Messicks.com. Click on Online Parts and choose New Holland Construction. Type in 555B for your Model No. Click on the description that comes up. Go to Transmission and click on Control Valve, Manifold and Tubes (9/84-). Solenoids are still available. Measure the valve travel to determine how far your solenoid moves to actuate the valve. You might want to check your wiring and switches before replacing the solenoid. You may not be getting power to the solenoid.
555b thanks Check Break, I already checked out all the wiring and it is fine. Messick's hasn't had the solenoid available for years even though they show they can have it in 3-7 days. They can get the whole assembly but they want $780. No way.
There is some online chatter about it being the same solenoid used in the 10 Series dual power and it being available from the UK. The part shows as available in the UK and the OE references on the same page show the aftermarket part crosses to E1NN982GA. Something you might want to follow up on. Price is around $200. http://www.allpartsni.co.uk/products/solenoid_53089.html?name=&filter_set [1]=1093%2C1117%2C1283&filter_set[2]=869%2C880%2C5623%2C1702&perpage=64&
