Engine stated leaking coolant in oil big time at 3000 hrs. Ran perfect, just milk in crankcase. Changed headgasket to no avail. Bought a reman engine from local New Holland dealer. Neighbor is diesel mechanic so he installed in couple weekends. Done yesterday and he dropped it off and I paid up. First bug-----engine starts right up but rpm will change by 100 to 200 rpm every 6 to 12 seconds. At any speed it does this. If you shut it off then start right back up it will run about 5 seconds and die like you turned it off. No sputter and smoke, just dies. It will restart easy and keeps running but rpm trick is still going on. Air or dirt in system??? Second issue is hyd system, which was perfect before engine swap and the pump and tank had to come off. Low pressure and flow. Will not raise rear bucket at idle and slow at higher speed. Front loader is same. Maybe trash or something under the relief valve? At this point the loader and backhoe is not of any use. Is the relief valve located in the loader control valve. If I can find it I will see if I can loosen it up so if something is holding it open it can move on pass. Comments welcome. LB
The rpm changing and dying are fuel starvation. The fuel line is blocked or sucking air in somewhere. If you can't find any leaking fuel spots, then take apart the suction line from the tank (including any strainer in the tank) to the transfer pump or filter. Does the hydraulic system make any noise? Is the fluid level correct? All the hoses tight?
