I have 1975 ford 4500 that's been sitting in gear for a long time. Now the clutch doesn't have any peddle.A slow leak from the one rear stabilizer foot drained the hydraulic fluid dry..Would this have anything to do with the clutch peddle not working or do I need to split the machine to free the clutch?
Wish I could help but normally hydraulics have everything to do with most everything. Running a hoe without hydraulic fluid will ruin your pump
Put in enough fluid to keep the pump protected, start it up and let it warm up good. Then goose it every once in a while. Move your stabilizer foot into position and fix the leak. Start it back up and try the clutch. If it doesn't work, start the tractor in 2nd gear and drive it around in figure 8's. It should free up.
As carogator has said do not run the pump without fluid. I would fill the reservoir and then put the bucket against a tree with the tractor in 1st gear and keep the foot pedal depressed. The force on the drive train should break the clutch free. The clutch on this machine is a simple one or two stage dry clutch and the hydraulic fluid has nothing to do with it. Carrogators method should be done with the clutch pedal depressed.
there is a clutch bearing cap on the right side of trans, just under the fuel tank. clean it out and fill cap with new grease. the book says to turn it a 1/4 turn or a full turn if it's been dry for a while
