Any low tech suggestions on how to check for fuel lines sucking air, particularly engine speed related, and detecting leak location? Thanks

run saparate hose and just drop in 5 gal bucket or tractor fuel tank, see if problem goes away.

Dragracer5256: Do not have much experience with Diesel so my questions my be overly cautious, I guess clean fuel without a filter on the five gallon bucket would be OK? What do I do about the injector return line, let it dump into the skid steer? Thanks

Basically start by checking to see if you have a restriction ,some thing like a suction strainer in the tank then look in the lift pump there may also be a filter there after that look at every joint and flexible pipe especially if it is brittle and gone hard....what is the fuel line on...

    Shaving cream.

spray alittle either around the fuel lines / fuel system and see if the rpms raise alittle or the motor runs for a short time that will getcha close to the problem area

You posted in the skidsteer area. What machine is this on? Bobcats are known for the tank pickup tube breaking off.
