Genie TZ 34/20 general hydraulic question

Donald Doebler · 2022-10-06 23:42

have a genie tz 34/20 lift. It has a manual pump screwed into it, in case malfunction, to get boom down. Problem is where it screws into the block, it keeps loosing itself, and shooting out hydraulic fluid. We have tightened it as tight as we could, and 20 minutes later, its a whole turn loose, and dripping fluid. Should there be loc tight on the threads, or something else i'm missing?

there should be the block, then a nut, then the bolt

the nut should be screwed down to the block and should prevent the bolt from moving.

It seems the pump is connected to the nut from the factory, one piece. As we turn the 3/4 nut, the whole pump unit spins with it. But the pump and nut unit, don't leak, and are fine, It's just the big nut to the block. That is where it keeps spinning itself loose. I thought loc tight, but my dad is afraid it will get into the hydraulic fluid.

I see, you are talking about the hand pump. Strange that that pump is working it self loose. Maybe it’s because it is aftermarket?

as far as i can see, its original. can i put loc tight on it. or too risky because of falling into hydraulic fluid

Put lock tight on it. Lock tight is not going to affect your hydraulic fluid. Its like the old expression a drop of water in the sea... And you don't have to drown it. A little lock tight goes a long way. Never ran into this particular situation on a tz. Do you a gas motor as well ? I could see vibration from that maybe but a straight electric unit with a valve backing out continually sounds like a thread issue to me.
