I have a Z60/34 lift with a diesel engine, serial # 911. The primary and secondary booms are not working, everything else is OK. When we put a battery charger on the lift the problem goes away. We put a new battery in the unit and it did not help. The alternator output is 13.4 Volts, is this too low?
I would say so. Check grounds everywhere first, but in my opinion you want to see around 14.2-14.5 volts when charging at above idle engine speed.
is that 13.4 volts measured at the ground level or in the basket? Check what your actual voltage is in the basket. Might be low way up there.
I work on these all the time if you are getting 13.4 it is to low but duetz only puts out 14 v the .6 its missing is borderline concerning since some the FL2011 engines have external altanators and some have them made into the engine cooling mechanics . Try looking at your voltage on the back of the altanator for internal altanators remove the side panel above the dipstick and fuel pump, panel is around 16" long and 12 inches wide (roughly ) held on by two 13 mm bolts one center each end then measure it at the starter where the hot for the altanator is suppose to run or usually . Remove the ground for om the back of the engine and clean the surface and reattach. Your excite runs threw a plug that fastens threw the engine right after the altanator cover check your voltages on both sides to determine the plug is good .The fuel shutoff could be going bad dragging the altanator down, have seen that before. If your still on 13.6 i would have the altanator rebuilt . Considering what you said about the battery charger i would have it rebuilt, if your ground is good . Those are few extra things i have seen on these below is a link to the manual for your machine based on serial number number http://manuals.gogenielift.com/Parts%20And%20Service%20Manuals/data/Service/Z%20Booms/30105.pdf
