grouser bar rebuild

theironoracle ยท 2012-12-12 01:35

next month i am going to replace the entire undercarriage on a 425 timbco. where i am hung up is it has 24" pads with mud holes and clipped corners on the pads. aftermarket korean pads are $55 each and i need 90 of them $5,000. what i have is actually oem cat pads with about 1.75" of grouser bars left on them, none are bent broke or missing but the inside lip where it slips under the next pad is completely worn flat on the inside from dragging on the rock guards as rails and rollers wore. So should i weld grouser bars on these pads and reuse them or go for the new aftermarket? what should i expect the hours be involved in welding new grouser bars on? any tips or tricks?..................theironoracle

We had a 425EX come into the shop with the identical problem of the rock guards hitting the track shoes. We removed the bottom rollers and installed 1/2 spacer plates between the roller frames and the rollers at the customers request. This raised the guards off of the shoes. Just something to think about.
