Sound like turning key off or stalling

It stalls, puffing out black smoke and cuts immediately not the symptom like it has run out of diesel no

    yes Cummins 6BTA

Its very common for the lift pump to go out on those engines.. It will supply enough fuel at idle but when the machine is moved or worked.. it'll stall. You have to clean the filter head also..as it has a screen in it.. its best to remove the filter head & take apart on the work bench... WHAT fuel system is on that engine.. Cummins put about 5 dif. ones on the 6BT.

Fuel system is just an inline pump to the injectors like any other injectors and being Chinese I don't know if the Cummins is original, you know how China imitates products

Well, that gets us started anyway.. If its an inline pump, it has to have an overflow valve ON the inj. pump in the line going back to the tank.. it might be broken.. VERY COMMON. Remove it & check the spring.. just shake it or push in on the ball from the bottom.. it has to have pressure on the ball to seat it.. {hold pressure} Is there any way you can CHECK the fuel pressure?? do you have gauges & fittings.??

I might get gauges and fittings but wouldn't know how much pressure I should expect since the machines don't come with those technical information-China!!

You can take pressure at the filter head bleed screw or at the inj. pump inlet.. The psi is 20-25 or better.. depending on the actual overflow valve.. some are set at 25 psi & some at 30+.. but either way, your looking for 20-25psi minimum. Anything less & your looking at overflow valve, lift pump or restriction..

Thanks, so if it's less than 20 psi, what could be the problem? it seems I have to put the gauges whilst the excavator is operating because starting it up with no load it runs fine but once you start digging, swinging or crawling then it starts stalling and cutting off and sometimes even under load it performs fine like everything is normal and all of a sudden bang and dies

What size/model/year is this machine? Hours? What brand of hydraulic pumps? They almost look like Komatsu clones It sounds to me like it's hydraulically stalling if there is lots of black smoke and stops immediately, pump regulation issues? Most likely electrical related. You've got me curious now...

I'm not saying it IS a fuel issue.. BUT you better check it out to be sure.. a $10.00 gauge & some fitting to check fuel pressure.. Its A LOT less expensive to diagnose & repair than the hydro's..
