Hitachi dowel pin or pin knock

Timneh1952 ยท 2023-08-20 17:58

Have the pin out a question about the pin that's out is tapered at the bottom is it supposed to be tapered from the factory or has someone been in this final drive before hard to find specs on it.It's the pin that locks the nut that goes through the hole in the nut.Thank you.

UH123 dowel pin # 4138498 . IIRC the dowel pin is the same diameter at both ends. I assume someone put a taper on the pin to help guide it into the lock hole in the ring gear.

Never owned one but turned wrenches for years at the Deere dealer. Do you have the torque spec for the large nut when going back together ?

The UH123 final drive bearing nut, hub and bearings are the same part numbers as a Deere 792 straight. Maybe @LACHAU or @mg2361 could dig up the torque spec for the final drive bearing nut.

It was a hard job on the crushers always keeping a close eye on metal going in the jaw.Had a old 20 lb sledge hammer head rusty could pass as a rock got in the jaw and all hel l broke loose belts squilling.Took me 4 hrs with the torches to free it lucky it didn't break the the bearing. No fun with your arms and head in the jaw on your belly.Don't miss the crusher.

For a 792 Deere, the spec is 289 lbft (392 Nm). After first tightening, rotate several revolutions, smack the nut a couple of times with a brass punch, torque again to same spec. Align nut with hole, insert dowel, making sure it is countersunk below nut 11.5 mm.
