how do I install fuel injector pump on D6C 10K Cat?
Is the old one still installed or are you reinstalling it? They mount up with an off set tang and it should be already timed. Just match up th etangs and bolt it up. Later Bob
A timing pin goes in the injection pump,,, a timing pin goes in the flywheel,,, prolly have to pull valve cover to make sure both valves on #1 cylinder are loose depicting top dead for that cylinder.
Robert, Bob/ Ont is correct, the D6C. 10k engines have an offset tang and it's just a matter of replacing inj. Pumps. The type of pump that "grampa" is talking of, is the later sleeve metering fuel system on D6D's, and in that case he is right, you turn the engine and "pin" the pump and then pin the flywheel to be sure your timing is right and nothing changes while the pump is replaced. My 10K D6c has the sleeve metering fuel pump. If it's a late one that's probably what it has.
So your pump has a plate on the side. That would mean that it is a sleeve metering pump. On the back end of the governor housing there will be a 1/2" bolt Head, that's the timing pin. On the side of the pump to the left of the plate will be a small cover, 2 small bolts hold it in place. On that small cover will be a bolt with a 9/16" head, remove it and that's where the timing pin goes to pin the pump in the proper position. The timing is a long precession shaft in order to reach the camshaft of the injection pump. Put the timing pin in that hole, it will drop down to the shaft surface. Turn the engine by hand until the pin drops into the slot in the pump shaft. If your timing was right before, it's good. You can then remove a plug on the front side of the flywheel housing. It also has a 9/16" head, use a long 3/8"NC bolt, it should thread into the flywheel. Let me know how you make out, Good Luck. Richard
