How much air pressure do you guys put in your fronts and rears. Old cat 988a. 29.5x29 tires. Thank you
It doesn't say on the tires?
Does your machine have a serial number?
Seems I get a lot of varying opinions depending on the application they are used in. That's why I specified these are on 988 front end loader
87a 1817
It is difficult to find information on tire inflation for your 988_87A. But the same 29.5 x 29 tires are used on the 824_36H. Attached is a detailed instruction on using such tires.
Thank you very much. The tire shop in the nearby town that services the iron mines told me 50 in the rear and 70 in the front
If you want to be 100% sure what tire pressure is needed for your 988_87A01817, you will have to download FE034894-02 988 Wheel Loader - Operation and Maintenance Instructions from https://catpublications.com .
According to the Cat Performance Handbook Edition 7, published back when the 87A-prefix 988 was a current model, the recommended pressures for 29.5 x 29 22PR bias-ply tyres were 45psi front and rear.
Sorry forgot the important page.
It’s important to differentiate between the MAXIMUM PERMITTED pressure specified by the manufacturer which is marked on the tyre sidewall and the RECOMMENDED OPERATING pressure for a particular tyre in a specific equipment fitment. They are completely different numbers.
Cat Performance Handbook Edition 7 is hard to find these days, and SIS doesn't have this information either. I explained to MattR that it's best to check with OMM, because they may have different tire inflation information. Sometimes it happens that the information in the Cat Performance Handbook may differ from the information in the SIS. Cat Performance Handbook is more for sales managers.
What they advised him was 70 in the front and 50 in the back. It seems to me that the tires would explode from that kind of pressure on a good bump)))
We used to run 105psi cold in the front axles of 994 loaders and they didn't explode. Referring to the Bridgestone Earthmover Tyre Handbook the maximum permitted pressure ratings of most 29.5 x 29 loader tyres fall into the range of 70-95psi depending on the tyre type. SIS isn't the bible, especially when it comes to information regarding tyres. The O&MM does not contain any recommendations regarding tyre inflation pressure recommendations. It simply says "Consult your tyre dealer for recommended operating pressures and load (Ton-MPH) rating". TBH in the absence of information to the contrary I would go with the Performance Handbook recommendation.
On 23.5-25r i run 70psi f and 50psi rear. The way i work out pressures is basically with bucket and rippers off ground i inflate until the sidewall is straight. This gives a slight sidewall bulge with a full bucket and a ok ride. Different tyre size to OP but it works for me.
Those are radial-ply though, unless I'm reading the "r" wrong....
The sidewall pressure could at least give the max PSI so they wouldn't be over inflated and could also give an idea of a range they could be inflated. It could be used in addition to seeing how much they squat. It would obviously be low if the tires squatted looking half flat. They could be adjusted to recommended pressure once that info is found.
What is the maximum pressure listed on your tires?
That's what asked I asked and got shot down for it.
All the instructions may be useless if he has tires that say, for example, "Maximum pressure 45 psi")))
I think that if you follow this comic book instruction, everything will be fine)))
Did you even read my posts?
Yes, I read it, but my post with this instruction was much earlier than yours. And we still haven't heard what is written on the sidewalls of MattR's tires.
I mentioned what's on the sidewall in the 2nd post.
Yes, but MattR wanted to hear an objective opinion from everyone.
Whatever.
