Depends on the type of stone. In metric I work on at least 1.4 tonnes of blasted rock to the cubic metre. Granite will usually be around 1.5 to 1.6 tonnes per cubic metre.

According to the Cat Performance Handbook, broken granite is about 2800lbs per cubic yard. Limestone is about 2600lbs, basalt is 3300lbs. Hope that helps a little.

This is a good question to ask your supplier. Tell him what you need in yards and he should be able to tell you exactly how many tons that is and what it's going to cost you.

Your gonna kick the heck out of 3000 tons.

what he said....rock can vary a BUNCH from quarry to quarry.....our native field stone here in south dakota, is a sedimentary rock, very light...and not very good for rip rapping purposes.....we have to truck it in from 90 miles away to get to the granite...you need to call your supplier, ask him what a yard of HIS material weighs....
