Got a question for all the union guys. As an equipment Operator I was just wondering how do I get a job with a union? Do you just pay your dues and then gamble that a position my come up that you can apply for? I have never worked for a union before. not sure how to go about working for one?

Operating Engineer's .. Its equipment in general, earth moving ,sewer/watermain,cranes , ,fork lifts...it can vary on scope and scale .. The Labourer's union may also cover some aspects of the equipment as well ..never hurts to check them out ... But ..as a member I would ask that you give operating engineer's the first go ..the pension alone is worth the extra gas to "go see" Again ..Best of Luck ..

The local has organiser's ..they would come out evaluate the company ..talk to the men and management ..everybody's wants and needs come together ..and hopfully there's a happy middle ground..between the men and company .. You would have to call the local near you ..sit down over a coffee and break a little ground ..see if its right for you ..

liebherr if i was to join iuoe it would be 793 how are they? i'm also curious if you go in as an apprentice do they cover the training course in morrisburg or is that out of pocket? or can you go anytime like qball seems to be able to? Thanks

Nothing wrong with 793 ..Ive no complants .. The appreticeship ..if you are accepted as a member and an apprentice -- you will have to pass some examination's ....pay up your due's ..wait on the list ..both for school and work ... Members do pay into a fund to help with the training and such of new member's and apprentice's ..I went to Morrisburg ..didnt cost me a dime..just my room on the weekends if i chose to stay on campus .. Things may have changed ...your best to call ..or pay them a visit.. and anything out of pocket that you have to pay while there ..is most likly all tax deductable anyway ..except the beer at Nick's Yes as a member you can go their anytime you wish ..as a member its yours as well as the next member's ..But to go a jump right on equipment ..that would have to bescheduled ..the few times i went to Oakville I didnt get the chance to get on the gear ..training in progress ..everytime equipment gets fired up it cost money ..so my own personal opinion is to let the apprentice's burn the fuel ..I had my turn ..better a litre for them than me ..
