How to locate sold equipment…

Casepoclain ยท 2009-12-27 23:12

Does anyone know if Cat keeps records on where machines are/who owns them? My Dad's D9G got sold into Canada in 2005ish, and we would like to know where it is and if we could get it back? Looking for D9G in AB or SK Canada; D8H in Central PA, to a museum in NY?; 977L w 4 in 1 bucket... may have went overseas, 955L .... last in the FL auctions in 2008. May even have a cash reward if we find them... sentimental value... were never to have left farm after retired. Thanks!

You are asking a third party to provide information on current location of machines? Even if Cat or some other third party has the information I doubt it would be legal for them to provide it to someone else. Probably the best you could do is check auction records and for sale listings to see if your serial numbers come up. Good Luck!

I'll have to consult my attorney and see if selling equipment is illegal. I was just curious if anyone had tried to find a machine before, and if so, how they went about it. Not asking for any thing top secret, no social security numbers, no credit card numbers. Those old machines may have ended up behind someone shop and destined for the torch, I would like to have the chance to buy them.

You could also have someone check the national crime database relating to 'lifted' equipment

Call your local Cat house and talk to a product and sales rep. Ask him if he can do a SIMS check for the serial numbers you listed. If any of them have been worked on by a CAT service tech, the serial number will be noted off his service report, and that will give you a ball park location. The dealer code is noted also so perhaps a call then to that dealers service manager would be in order. He could possibly point you even closer. Good Luck!
