I like a hyd thumb on the machines i run. just makes life easy some days I really like them loading rip rap into fussy truckers end dumps

what are you going to be using the hyd. thumb or jawbucket for, ,capt?

i will be using it for moving and placing boulders for the most part. i'd say it will move logs from time to time also. it seems to me a thumb would be better because it could be used for whichever bucket is on the machine where the jawbucket would limit me to one bucket.

After having a thumb, one would not want to be without one. A bucket without a thumb is like a one armed man with no thumb on his only hand. A hydraulic thumb will work with pretty much any bucket. A digging bucket with teeth may work best with a thumb, but I usually don't bother changing buckets if the clean up bucket is on. The thumb works well with that too. Thumbs work great for handling larger rocks, logs, brush, etc. In the past few weeks, I burnt a couple of brush piles. One was large - about 50 feet by 100 feet and twelve feet or more high. The Dozer operator that built the pile put a lot of dirt in with the wood, which made for a poor burn. The excavator with the thumb made stacking and repiling a breeze. One can also stay upwind away from the smoke and fire and let the bucket and thumb reach in and do the dirty work. One can pick up large clusters of the brush pile and shake dirt out of it too. It makes a nasty job much more manageable and pleasant.

Hyd thumb A pin on thumb that follows the rotation of your digging bucket will act almost exactly like a grapple where as a weld on will cause you to lose your bite as the bucket is curled in or out. we built this one for my 311.It works fantastic.
