Hydraulic test point on Volvo loader

aidank ยท 2025-05-10 09:18

I need to do some transmission tests on a Volvo loader, transmission is getting hot for no reason. Transmission running perfectly. It has hydraulic test points already mounted from factory. Caps are labeled tema Anyone know what type of a coupling I need to attach a hose and gauge

Those are TEMA fittings. You can swap them out for Stauff fittings. Stuff are better because you can connect under pressure where it's very difficult with TEMA. I would change the fittings since everyone is going that way anyway.

are they just regular TEMA 1/4"

this seems to be it, TEMA 150 https://www.lakeudenhydro.fi/en/hyd...ng-for-measuring-plugs-r1-8-male-150/p/77358/

Let's back up to your original problem. You stated your trans is overheating. Have you verified that your APS switch is in auto or light? Have you verified that the hydraulic and the gearbox sides are full? Is your cooling system functioning properly? Have you checked and verified that it's actually overheating and not just a wiring issue? It looks like you're working on a C or D series machine. As far as the coupler, it looks like you've selected the right one.

APS not worked in the last 15years, thus always in manual mode. Yes water in radiator and oil in gearbox. Radiator is clean. Not had oil cooler apart yet to check is the water side partially blocked. Engine purrs along at 80c just where it should be. Not put a thermometer in the trans when it gets as far as red zone but outer surface and filter are as hot as a saucepan with water boiling. It's a L30 bm 1992

Service information is non-existent. And your L30 BM is a bit of a unicorn. That trans is only used in that machine and there is hardly any cross compatibility. Going by parts illustration, I would check the sump strainer for being plugged, and the serviceable filter for being restricted. Beyond that, I would see if I could determine if the oil was being aerated. Perhaps the lube pump is sucking air. Lastly would be checking the pipes going into and out of the cooler at the radiator tank. See if they're getting warm at all, if one is by itself. Maybe even if disconnect the outlet line from the cooler to see if oil is flowing. I don't see any temp regulator in the parts diagrams. Please see attached

Thank you v much for that will have a good look at it soon. YOu don't have any details around the oil cooler which is under the radiator by any chance please

No, it's shown as integral to the lower radiator tank. If you determine the cooler is restricted, perhaps you could back flush it with compressed air and some kind of solvent. Good luck.

how would i check the lube pump for sucking air, low pressure light on dash goes out within 5 seconds at start up after over night stop and never reappears until 0.5 seconds after shut off. Light goes out within 2 seconds of startup when stopping and starting during the day. checked the suction screen again this morning, its spotless, will change the filter, it was changed 5-600hrs ago along with the oil. thanks v much for the info from Prosis I have a copy of the general maintenance manual.
