I do realize Cats have been hydro for awhile, I remember hearing when Deere came out with their issued monsters and the advent of Liebherr. Question are the present used hydros any better than they used to be, the ones we were always told to run away fast from? Basis on advances and credibility over the older clutch or torque converter tractors.
They can be very efficient if they don't have excessive Loop Loss. That means leakage from the drive loop, that will cause heat and reduce the amount of hot oil that gets through the cooler. Heat is Energy and heat loss is money loss as well as soon to be needed repair cost. Cost is a four letter word. Later Bob
You'll hear strong opinions both ways, but in my opinion a lot of the issues with the hystats come from the inherent ability of the machine. Contra rotation wasn't there on the old power shifts, it is on the hystats. Used correctly it's a get-you-out-of-the-brown-stuff option, used wrongly (watch most YouTube videos) it chews tracks and strains the driveline. It isn't until you see a 953 directly alongside a 955 or 977 that you realise what a step forward the hystats are.
Along with what you are saying. You need to be a Real Operator to get production out of a Powershift machine. The Nimblefooted Hystats are very forgiving. Unfortunately the novice productivity comes at the cost of UC wear. Later Bob
Bob, what I should have said was "what a step forward the hystats can be" (in the right hands).
Yes you are right. Later Bob
