ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO FIX A 1994 JD310D BACKHOE-- HARD STARTING AFTER SITTING 2-3 DAYS--I HAVE TO HAND PRIMER FUEL AND USE STARTING FLUID. IT STARTS EASY EVERY DAY ONCE YOU GET IT RUNNING BUT LET IT SIT 2-3 DAYS AND IT'LL START FOR A SECOND THEN QUIT. ANY IDEAS ON WHERE TO LOOK? [email protected]
Replace the rubber suction line. Check for a suction screen in the tank. You do drain a bit out of the petcok on the fuel tank every week, right?
Does it start the next day?
IF you can hand prime it, it means the fuel is "back flowing" to the tank THRU the lift pump check valves.. OR theres a small crack/hole in a line somewhere that's sucking air/leaking fuel.. You can put a SMALL AMOUNT of air pressure in the tank & check for leaks.. The lift pumps are less than 50.00 to replace.. OR just take the lift pump apart, clean the screen & check vales, check the diaphragm for pin holes & give it another try..
KEN, My 310D had a similar issue. I found a hole in the steel fuel line where it bends around the back end of the cylinder head. That line connects the fuel filter to the injection pump. It was worn through by rubbing on the small clamp that wraps around the line. I cut a few inches from the steel line and replaced the section with rubber gasoline hose. Problem solved. Hope you find yours.
