JD 544-B engine swap?

Hello, Just wondering if a 12 valve cummins would swap into a 544-b without too much trouble. Any thoughts?

Every engine swap to a totally different brand is fraught with hidden costs. Careful examination and measuring, and consideration of the total amount of changes needed, is what you need to define. Writing it all down on a sheet of paper helps clarify the pros and cons. Typically, changes are needed to flywheel housing, water lines, oil coolers, engine mounts, air inlet and exhaust arrangements, and wiring. Sheet metal/panels may need to be modified. Fan mounting arrangement/height, and the fan to be used needs examination. The original fan may need to be adapted to the new engine. A new fan shroud may be required, and attention to air flow is important. These all add up, despite appearing to be easy enough with an initial examination.

@OzDozer pretty well nailed it all. The 544B steering / brake pump is driven off the front of the crank, that I think will be the biggest challenge to adapt.

I guess I was aware of most of what OzDozer had said. I was mostly wondering about how it would connect to transmission. If it was ever coupled to this type of Allison trans in any other equipment. Diesel Dave reminded me of the front mounting of that pump. Kind of a lot of rigging for sure. Any decent source for a engine rebuilt kit for these JD engines anyone?

Me and a buddy done it back in 2010ish. It wasn't to bad of a swap. You'll need a #3 sae flywheel housing ( bus engines with an Allison 545 will have this), a flywheel ( this is harder to find as the bus setup will have a flex plate). I machined an adapter to bolt the john deere drive plate to the cummins flywheel, I can't remember many details but I know it wasn't complicated. As for the drive for the steering and brake pump that 2 was easy, the spline on the pump is a standard size so we used an off the shelf 1310 series pto shaft yoke, a short driveshaft, and a 4 bolt flange 1310 yoke with another simple adapter to bolt it to the cummins damper. You could probably buy that as well if you hunted enough. All in all it wasn't a complicated swap, much easier then a 4bt into a cat 910 we did after. The John deere has been handling the extra HP without issue and the owner works it hard to so no worries there.
