I have a JD 644k ser # 1DW644KZCCE650076 with a restricted exhaust filter and engine power limited. The parts catalog doesn't show a filter unit, or DPF. I think it is referring to the exhaust gas recirculation system. Warning says it needs cleaning. Parts catalog also shows an EGR valve, and a Heat Exchanger. I would think the restriction usually occurs in the heat exchanger, but not sure. Any help and knowledge is greatly appreciated.
Sure looks like a DPF unit to me. Used to be that you just needed the last 6 digits of S/N for lookup, but, you now need the E in front of the last 6 digits, too.
Yes it does. Thank you for the diagram. Manufacturer info-video on the emissions system show that ash builds up and needs to be cleaned at about 5000 hours. It also says conveniently, John Deere has an exchange program for cleaned ones. Seems strange that we have just 5025 hours on the machine and this happens. I have read that some owners clean the unit themselves, but do I still have to get field service to clear this derate controlled by the ECU? Any experience on cleaning these?
Any tests for checking the sensors ahead of cleaning?
It was a $1000 to have dealer R&R dpf, have it cleaned, reinstalled, and run a regeneration on our 544k, all at 11,300 hours. That was the first time the dpf was serviced.
Thanks, it would figure that the dealer would require you to have them reset the ECU. Cats are nice because you can do a forced regen.
You still need a dealer once the soot load is calculated over, IIRC, 130%.
I did a code clearing yesterday, but the restriction code remains and RPM is limited because of the DPF restriction code. I tried a regen on the exhaust filter, but it would not go past 38%. I assume that is because of the limited RPM. The regen would probably need a higher RPM required for filter regen completion
What specific codes do you have? List the ones you deleted to, if you recorded them.
Code DPF 3719.0 Service required ECU Filter cleaning required contact service rep occurrences 62 first 5011.8 hrs last 5025.9 hrs current 5026.2 hrs That's the only one that showed up with Engine speed 189.31 Derate active ECU Speed derate Condition exist same hours as above
3719 code can only be cleared with a service regen initiated through Service Advisor, or possibly might require a DPF Recovery procedure through Service Advisor. That code by itself is the end result, so something else is is causing the DPF to plug up. Is the exhaust system setup in the monitor for automatic regens? If it is disabled that could be a cause. Does the operator shut it down when regen starts? A leaking injector or dosing injector, lots of idle time or low load running, low engine operating temperature are some of the things that can cause the DPF to plug. There are 3 DPF soot load readings in Service Advisor that can help determine issues and whether the DPF needs to come out to be cleaned. If it does not or cannot complete a regen, and there are no other codes, then there are 4 tests that will need to be done: 1. Regeneration Abort Source Identification Test 2. Exhaust Temperature Management Test 3. Fuel Dosing System Air Purge Test 4. Fuel Dosing Pump Diagnostic Test These all can only be performed with Service Advisor. So, basically, you now need the dealer to take over, or an independent who has Service Advisor.
Thank You mg, we removed the DPF and cleaned it with a pressure washer. I didn't think it was that dirty inside compared to some of the videos if have watched. We have a call in for field service. DPF code was tripped when we bought the unit' but my guess is a lot of idle hours and no one allowing it to complete regen.
Well, JD service came out and checked a few things. He did a service regen for awhile, but got a message to use a higher level for regen. Started the regen over and nearly two hours passed and it wasn't complete. He checked the time required and it calls for 3 hours and 10 minutes. Long story short, his day was over and he said he would be bake today to start over. The JD644k finally took the regen, and tech gave us credit for some hours yesterday. DPF cleaning did do a good job
Sometimes they have a latched emissions code that will not allow a regen to complete. Have to have service advisor to clear the latched codes then do a forced regen. Clearing the codes on the machine through the monitor will not achieve this. Prolonged idle time, putting it around and continuous cancelling of the parked regen has been the cause most of the time. On another one it was a EGR cooler and another one the VGT on the turbo.
