JD Tractor 2950 6359 cu timing help

I'm rebuilding a JD Tractor 2950 engine 6359cu .Do I need the JD254A timing tool in order to mount the gear for the camshaft ,injection pump , etc. thanks

    No. You can use a straight edge.

    Deere does not have timing marks on the gears that align with marks on other gears. They have marks on all the timing gears that must point towards the crankshaft centerline. So if you placed a straightedge with the edge of the straightedge on the centerline of the crankshaft that same edge should line up with the timing mark on each gear it is placed on. If you want the proper tool it is only $12 form your Deere dealer.
