What serial number and what engine does your machine have? This model used different wiring controls and circuits depending on S/N.

sorry about multiple treads! Its a 2000 JLG 600A Serial # is 0300047990. Engine is 2.5L ford ranger 1998. thanks!

If the swing is working properly from the lower control station, it's likely there's no problem with the solenoid valve or the wiring from lower control box to the control valves. This being the case, your problem is most likely from platform controls down to lower control box. According to the S/N you posted, your machine uses Rexroth PWM circuit boards for the proportional controls at the platform. You said you installed a new joystick, does that joystick control both swing and main boom up/dwn? Also, did you replace just the joystick, or did you replace the Rexroth PWM circut card that the joystick wiring connects to. It sounds like to me you may have a problem with the PWM card or wiring going down the boom to lower control station.

i would take a look at the wiring. wiggling it around to see if it catches. the wiring nearest the basket is a good place to start. also look for damaged wiring anywhere the sun can hit it. the connector under the box may be bad. the card in the box may have lights to indicate power going out. you can check it with a volt meter.

Thanks for both of the posts. We checked for loose wiring to all connection points. The joy stick is new and it does control up, down, left, right swing. I checked with radio shack regarding the potentiometer switch. Also, talked with a friend said that the voltage coming to the basket should read 12 volts on each of the switches. The potentiometer switch needs to be in the full open position and checked to see if a volt meter is reading a full12 volt output coming from that switch. I am waiting on my pal to stop by with his volt meter to verify the output. GCIron said that all the voltage to the basket goes thru the potentiometer switch before 12 volts goes to any other function switch or joystick in the basket? So if the potientiometer switch is bad so will my joystick operation? Why only to the left swing function of the joy stick and not to any other function of that joystick or of any of the other switches? Thanks

You didn't answer my question bleuwater, did you replace the Rexroth control card for the swing function as well? Look at drawing below and see if this is the setup your machine has. If so, look at item #24 (red arrow pointing to it). That's a Rexroth PWM control card, there should be 4 of them to control main boom up/dwn, swing, drive, and flow control knob for toggle switch functions. If you haven't done anything about the control card for swing, try switching the cards out. Remove control card from a function that works proper, such as main boom, and connect that card to the swing harness, then see if swing operates proper.

I would say "as Atco said" the card is the place to start. I would think if the potentiometer switch is faulty than all functions would suffer. I had a few of these cards go bad over the years and it makes the controls really irratic for a while or not work at all. If they are all the same "there will be four cards" trying swapping over from the travel card and see if the swing improves. If it does than you know thats the problem. Best of luck!!!

No, I did'nt replace the rex card $750.00 each! I am trying to do this by eliminating the least costly and hopefully fixing the problem before springing for one of those cards. Thanks for the tip on interchanging the leads to the other cards will try that. Was'nt sure they were interchanageable. Appreciate that.

Im not 100% sure they are, see if the part numbers are the same before you do anything. I have 4 cards that are still good if you need one. Had a truck driver break the plastic control box to pieces on one of mine.

yes barklee I may need one. I ordered a new poteniometer. Should be in 4/12n. I will test switch first thing. How could I contact you about your cards? Thanks

You can just PM me the part number on the card in question and i will check it against mine.
