Alright guys our 210LE John Deere is making a "popping" noise in the rear end and won't roll unless it's in 4wd and the front pulls it around & our mechanic don't have a clue, any advice? Even a step by step on taking the rear end apart? Thanks for anyone with any info Josh
Clue ? popping sounds... broken gear, shaft or spline. The popping sound results from metal teeth slipping past each other. Get another mechanic, your mech doesn't want to dig into it, if he tells you he hasn't got a clue.
Thanks for a point in the right direction, just walked into the situation and I damn sure don't have a clue!
since it drives on the front. look for a bad drive line first. pull drain plugs and inspect. see which side of the differential has the problem. if its in the diff, one way to do it pull it out of the chassis and scatter it
Try the differential lock, see if one wheel pulls. Very well could be an axle shaft or planetary issue only affecting one axle. Looks like the front part of the housing holding the pinion gear can be removed after pulling the driveline, that might be a next step to allow some inspection before having to remove the whole axle for disassembly if required.
If I remember. That's would be the brake. I had to resell one. It was filling the housing with hydraulic oil. The diff splits in half. If I remember.
That would be the parking brake yes, the whole housing unbolts from the center section, opening up to the ring gear. There's a center section, brake on each side, axle housing on each side, planetary on each end.
