John Deere 310J question

Brian Young ยท 2021-11-21 18:58

We have a 310j that pretty much sits all summer with a few trips around our shop just to keep things moving. Any way, I changed both fuel filters 2 weeks ago, the fuel was very low then and the low fuel light came on yesterday and today went to drive it down the road to get it filled up and it wont pull more than 1900 rpms while driving and can barley climb slight hills but sitting while in neutral it will come up to the normal 2340 rpm's. Do you think because the fuel was so low it sloshed some dirt around to plug or partially plug up the filters that quick. TIA.

Welcome to HEF Brian ! Perform a converter stall test. Engine at operating temperature, transmission at operating temperature (both temps are important). With your one foot firmly on the brake, place transmission into 3rd forward and run the engine to full throttle and record the engine rpm. Do not stall for more than 10-15 seconds. Then shift to neutral and let it cool for a minute. Then repeat the test. Perform several times letting it cool a minute or 2 in between tests. Post results. Is your engine turbocharged?

Will do, yes its turbocharged. Heading up to my shop in a bit and will post some results. By the way what would that tell me.

If in fact there is an engine and/or transmission issue.
