John Deere 762B Series II

Hello all, Have a question about a John Deere 762B Series II scraper axle. Machine was purchased with low hours and pretty good condition and was currently being used before purchase. Took to job site after purchase and every fluid was went through, oils changed, plus a general look over. While operating one day the machine suddenly stopped as if the brakes were applied and from then on wouldn't move. Took driveshaft out from transmission and pulled axle cover with pinion gear to find no oil in the axle and a friction welded pinion bearing. My question is where did my oil go? I know there is a tandem pump that operates the diff lock and circulates oil for lubrication, but where would the oil have went? Not much evidence of oil on the machine where a leak could have occurred and pumped oil onto the ground. Could it have gone into the transmission due to the tandem pump seal leaking? Any help is greatly appreciated. Tearing into the cover with the bearings and pinion gear now. Thanks!

Welcome to HEF Kuhnfarm . A bad axle oil pump shaft seal could have dumped all the axle oil into the transmission but the transmission would be approx 8 gallons overfull ! See the screen shot below showing plumbing to axle oil cooler , solenoid valve etc. A small oil leak over time could dump the axle oil without leaving much of a trace.
