Ford challenges auto journos and they squeeze 34 mpg out of a stock 2011 Ford Super Duty (6.7L Power Stroke diesel) loaded with 1,000 pounds. http://bit.ly/a2weF1

hahahaha well that is not loaded, my f250 goes down the road every day well over 20,000 gcvw

If the superduty was getting that kind of mileage, what kind of mileage was the tow truck pulling it getting?

Well, on the bright side, they won't likely be worse than the 6.0L trucks. I was promised they were 300,000 mile engines, industrial duty. Out of my 5 trucks, all of them put together could not run 300,000 miles without several major overhauls. As for the mileage claim, how can they put 1,000 lb in and say "loaded"??? Most guys that buy a truck like that put 1,000 lb of toolboxes, fuel tanks, etc. in them before they even start to add tools. Then add a few thousand lb of cargo. BTW, the test track must have been all downhill. If they coasted, they might make 34 mpg. I want to know what it gets with about 3,000 lb of weight, plus a 16,000 lb trailer in tow. That would be meaningful info.

    . 34 mpg ... at ... 25 mph ... standard shift. .

If the truck had 1000lbs in it, it probably grossed nearly 9000 lbs. 34mpg from a vehicle weighing that much is pretty impressive if you ask me.

I could sometimes get that out of my 40' RV. It just barely was able to eek out 4mpg going UP the Grand Tetons though :falldownlaugh Might even got better going down if I hadn't had to pull over twice when I smelled the brakes :eek2

Only a 80 mile trip so my guess is that at 81 miles regen kicks in and drops the mileage to 17mpg.

Ford's using SCR for their diesels. They don't have a regen system.

With the low quality of journalist's today, it's for sure their mileage claims for the pickup can not be believed. Particularly for those of us that know Ford's and the Power Stroke engine. Others have noted that a thousand pound load is insignificant. A true test would be pulling a 14-16000lb trailer. That's where it counts for pickups.

    It starts . . .

Better read read up on that. Ford's new diesel does in fact still has a regen system. It just regen's less using the SCR. jr

Pulled a 35ft fifth wheel to Florida with a 2011 6.7 F450 4x4 Crew Cab drove it like I stole it and averaged 15MPG. Power was very impressive and rode like a dream. I wish my 550 rode like that.

Did they use the over head lie-o-meter?

  14. #14Ross2010-08-31 19:40

My Land Cruiser dont get that MPG .. Is this the New BOSS Diesel? :tong So: Standard US Gallon (3.78ltrs) 34 Miles (54.7kms) 100 / 54.7 x 3.78 Around 7ltrs Per 100kms ointhead

  15. #15stangman8932010-09-03 12:18

Hope they didn't use the lie-o-meter.My display is confused at best telling me i am getting 13.2 hand calculated 16.7.Just a little off but I have seen the 6.4 liter getting in the 20's with a little help from my friend spartan.

Oh no Ford wouldn't bend the truth a little check out this Vid. 3 trucks with similar power ratings, but one way out performs the others. Well is might have something to do with the fact they forgot to floor the other 2. GMs shift points are at 3200RPMs no way it should be under 2500RPMs. YouTube - Head To Head Torque Test - 2011 SuperDuty/Silverado/Ram

  17. #17JDOFMEMI2010-09-05 18:34

What did they do, get a Ram with a gas burner in it? I'm pretty sure a Cummins will do much better with only a 9500# trailer on it. The Ford is impressive though, I just don't think the test was apples to apples

  18. #18MOUNTAIN MAN2010-09-06 01:10

So true hahaha, DODGE is the best in my opinion.

  19. #19MOUNTAIN MAN2010-09-06 01:14

Yep thats a fair bet! Im with you on that one!

  20. #20vtcntrctr2010-09-16 08:49

Did anybody actually read the story. The "journalists" where driving only with the goal of fuel efficiency in mind. In fact the team specialized in it. They were fr#!#ng drafting the whole way.

  21. #21HCF2010-09-19 23:06

I think that is BS. we have an '07 F-550 that weighs 14,800lbs going down the road every day. .488 gears in the rear end and we average about 15 mpg. We also have an '08 F-350. Never gets loaded, gets driven like it's stolen and averages 13.2 mpg. But, that isn't why you buy a pickup. If you're looking for fuel economy, you buy a car. In the defense of the 6.4, it'll pass everything on the road but a gas station.

  22. #22stuvecorp2010-09-20 00:47

It's kinda bogus if they aren't driving it normal. I like the higher rear axle ratio and have been hearing good things about the new engine. My 07 550 gets around 9 and it sucks. Love the truck but it kills me to feed it, I guess you either pay for the fuel or the monster truck payment. :beatsme
