I have a 1987 Komatsu D83 and apparently there were only a few of these machines made. It reminds of of an 850k Deere size wise. It has been the most unreliable dozer ive ever seen. It has never finished a job without major break downs - final drives give out, just stops steering, pumps go out, and the engine finally blew. Unfortunately my dad bought the dozer a brand new undercarriage ($15k) right before it started falling apart and it has sat for the past 5 years and im not sure what to do with it. I have been in the process of researching on doing an inframe rebuild but im afraid ill drop 5-10k on the engine rebuild and then the other final drive will give up or the steering problem are unfixable due to no parts availability. The engine is a SD125 6 cyl I'd love to find someone who knows anything about these dozers and find more literature than i can find online. We have the shop manual for it. Im debating on trying to sell the undercarriage and scrapping the rest of the dozer since i really have no use for a dozer this size and putting the $ on a down payment on a nice 650/D5 size dozer. We have D53 & D37 that we use the daily. From what i can tell the undercarriage would be the same on a D85 - 24" 42 pads assuming the chain/sprockets are the same. Anything would be appreciated.
