I have a 200lc-3 and busted a hose. The shop manual calls for 10w engine oil, but I'm not sure what was in it, oil or hyd fluid. Napa says the 10w aw32 and 10w engine oil has same specs now days. Would it be ok to add aw32 if it has engine oil now. It is still above high level mark with arm out and bucket open, but I would like some opinios before it does get low. Thanks for any advice.
Don't use engine oil. When it say 10 w for hyd in the manual it means a non detergent 10 w. Most guys just run hydraulic oil because strait 10w non detergent is expensive. Yes you can mix the two oils with no I'll effects that I've ever heard of.
You can run almost anything that is clean in that old dog. We always chose AW46 in this climate which is a thick 10Wt. Hydraulic oil is a whole lot cheaper than engine oil and you won't know the difference in operation. Good Luck!
I would run what your manual said. These machines cost to much to risk damage from running the wrong fluild. Good Luck
Hi all i have a PC28UU-3 that i recently just got. few questions anyone know where i could get a manual for this? also question about the Hyd Oil i am not sure what type to use or how much should be in the tank. i can see the indicator should this be above the round circle??? i have no idea to be honest any help would be good. thanks
10W hydraulic oil from any of the major brands. Absolutely no doubt. An ISO VG32 hydraulic oil is about equivalent to a 20W viscosity in SAE engine grades. Unless you are in a warm climate it's a bit on the heavy side for hydraulic unless you want to spend 20 minutes every morning in winter warming up the hydraulics. You can mix engine oil with any hydraulic oil but I wouldn't recommend it as a long-term thing.
thanks for the reply, how much hyd oil should i put in the tank?? should i fill it or have it over half i am not sure. any help with this aswell please. thanks guys.
It should have a sight glass on the side of the tank. To check the level put the equipment with the stick in a vertical position and the bucket with the base flat on the ground - teeth pointing straight along the ground towards the tracks. Top up the oil to the maximum mark on the sight glass with the equipment in this position.
I have been using Chevron URSA 10w hydraulic oil in my Komatsu excavator , the specifications for the oil say its compatible with engine oils in hyd systems .
The difference being that the 32/46/68w oil, is a synthetic oil. These can-not safely be mixed with each other, unless you are to change the whole tank, without jeopardising the integrity of the hydraulics and component parts. ( A hydraulic flush on a machine can be pretty expensive through an OEM, so why take the risk!!) If the operators manual says to use the SAE10w, this is because it is a mineral oil, and can safely be mixed into other oils as a "top up oil". In the operators manual, in the maintenance section, is a list of complete oils on a chart, ranging to the ambient temperature, where your machine currently resides. (take into account, a machine in the sun, will cook the hydraulic oil quicker due to boiling temperature, which can cause rubber o'rings and cylinders seals to "melt"). I have seen this recently on a PC200 working out near Alice Springs. All cylinders, control valve o'rings and swivel joint. If you have any questions regarding a support issue, its always best to contact your OEM (Who, for interests sake, wont just tell you the correct lubricant, but will also sell you the correct lubricant, to use).
