Komatsu model letters??

.RC. ยท 2014-11-17 07:03

Does anyone know what the Komatsu model letter that were used in the older 1970 and 1980 model dozers.. For example in the 1980's they had the D65A-8 and the D65E-8 and the D65P-8. I know the P was for lgp machines but the difference between the A and E eludes me.. Edit: OK I think I have worked it out... A series have six roller track frames, E series have 7 roller track frames...

Hey mate i can help you out on this. Dad has a komatsu D60E-8. The D60/65A-8 is 160hp The D60/65E-8 is 170hp. Other than the track frame length and power ratings i do not think there is much difference between the A and the E. Track gauge is the same, rollers and idlers are all interchangeable. final drives, steering clutches, transmission, chassis etc are the same. The D60/65P-8 is a lgp/swamp dozer and has a long 9 roller frame and is 165hp. the tractor has a long chassis with a big long bonnet and different nose cone to the A/E. The P has a much wider track gauge, 14ft wide blade as well and i dont know anything more about them. The model identification on komatsu is fairly easy to understand. The D would be for dozer which you would know. Numbers are to identify size and transmission type D40, 50, 60, 80, 150 is direct drive. D45, 65, 85, 135, 155 etc is power shift. Some powershifts have a number ending in 1, 3 etc "D41, 53, 61, 83". I must mention the D51EX-21/22 and the D61EX-22 are hydrostatic. The letters are for track frame type, steering system or special model. A =6 roller E =7 roller F = farming/agricultural LK/LE = logging king or logging emperor. P = 9 roller lgp/swamp S = track loader AX = 6 roller/hydrostatic steering EX = 7 roller frame/hydrostatic steering "on the D65EX series there is also a long track version with a 8 roller frame" PX = 9 roller swamp/lgp.hydrostatic steering. WX = wide track gauge, similar to EX. Hope this makes sense.
