Greetings guys - very new to the game - Purchased a second hand Pc45 for use around my farm - My background is Maintenance Fitter with some hydraulic back ground so more the mechanical repairer than the operator ( at this stage ) so to my problems -- Foot switch for fast Travel does nothing - is this an electric switch or hydraulic ? Once machine is warmed up one track is far more powerful than the other - to the point one will not drive by itself to turn / adjust direction of travel - and have to reverse the other track to point in right direction - where do i begin to look for fault / hints required - will drive straight when both levers are used Does have rough drive when on the way - like im driving on a really rough road - but road is smooth and nicely grooms with no stones - sandy clay based all weather road firm - no loose soil or sand I have managed to find a Service manual in PDF that i have downloaded a side note some of the electrics are not connected - will endever to fix this problem as i am fixing this machine up as i am finding issues thanks Boc ointhead
Your 2 speed is an electric switch that adjusts the angle of the swash plate in the travel motors, I believe. Some machines have an auto kick down for when the machine is under load, like when pushing material up hill or when turning. If it were mine I'd prop the machine up in the air on the blade and the bucket on flat level and hard ground and look at several things. Your rough ride could be attributed to undercarriage problems, look at your bottom rollers, your front idlers, and just make sure everything is rolling and tracking as it should, also check your two speed, to see if its just the autop kick down doing it. Weak track... check your final drive oil on both sides. Alot of times people never change the oil and it generates a premeature final failure. Next I'd switch the hoses from the right and left travel motor and see if the problem switched as well. If the problem doesnt move, and your finals looked good, its probably the travel motor. If the problem did move, then is oil related, as pressure tests are in order. Best of luck with your new machine...
G'day. Ive got a Pc45-1 and had the problem with the rough ride as well, so I checked my carry rollers. Found the back 4 were worn out and the track was riding up on the edge of the roller and slipping off. I replaced the worn rollers witch was very easy, took me half an hour, and now no jumping around, it runs along smooth but I still rolled a track off while turning. Tracks are worn but they are tight enough going by the book. Does anyone know any thing about the track guids down near the carry rollers? Is there a wear limit on these and could this be the main problem. Thanks.
one more possible problem that can be a IPTA to repair is the swing joint in the center of the body , its full of orings that wear out over time but chances are its cheaper to fix then a drive motor! The two speed is mostlikely a sticky solinoid on the drive motor valve body . They dont get used much so they get sticky over time.
Ozboc Would you mind sharing that service pdf file with me .Please email me at [email protected] thanks ED
Thanks for everyone input - it has given me a place to start the fault finding - ToolKing - the pdf is 22.5 MB in size - and hotmail wont allow me to post file that large -
Ozboc up load it to 4share.com .It is file transfer site for send files that are large and forward me the download link.
Where is the 2 speed solenoid on a CAT?
check yuor engine speed...then check ur travel pressure at high idle.....225kg..check ut pc valve if all pressures r ok....try ur reliefs....
Follow up --- Greetings again Formites, Here is what i have found ( in case its of some benifit for others with same issues ) Foot switch - unbolted the foot switch - tested with multimeter ( ohms ) and surprise surprise - open circuit in off and on position - cleaned switch at contacts - Continuity once again with very little resistance - Still no operation - checked fuses - aaah 20 amp blown - checked for any dead shorts - none obvious - borrowed fuse from hydraulic side - put in --- with tracks of the ground - clear difference in speed once foot button activated ... problem solved -- Rough Ride - operation With excavator lifted of the ground 2 inches Ran both tracks to clear any debris - found a dozen or so tracks loose - BUT the biggie - one of the track rollers are worn flat , clearly seized up at one stage - so maybe will look into a full set of rollers if not cost prohibitive - if they are - may get them made locally Have not jumped on the weak operation of one track as yet - will tackle these issues first - they may even help ( the seized roller wont help) will keep you guys updated as things progress Boc

Last Question for the time being - do i have to split the track to get the lower rollers out or is there another trick to working them out from between the frame and track ?
release your track tension and pick the machine up w/ blade and bucket, you might mbe able to wiggle it out.
Yea I just releast the track tension and lifted one side at a time. I put timber under each end to suport the machine cos I didn't want to put my hands in there with just the hydraulics suporting it and the rollers came out with plenty of room.
Bish - totally agree with your comments about using supports - NEVER EVER trust the hydraulics to hold the machine up - if you MUST work near the raised machine without support - presume that it can drop at any moment without warning .... you dont get a second chance when your dealing with this type of machinery ....
Thats right Ozboc, I still have to work out how to break the track as I think I may have to replace the pins and bushes, if it has bushes, becouse the track still trying to come off. I dont know weather there is a special link to undo or what. I hope to find it in the book. Please keep us posted.
what about the LS valves. If travel speed is a problem id look there as well. Also there is a pressure switch that is like a co cancel switch. check it isnt faulty. if faulty it will only allow you to get standard pressure not travel pressure.
