My buddy has a Kubota tractor, 600 or so hrs, garage kept, said they had it running one day to charge up battery, ran for a hr, shut it off and it never started after that. I didn't see anything till this point they are at now. They have front cover off , all timing marks alight up on gears. It has fuel, all safteys work, it didn't run out of fuel. It won't even pop off on either? So he cranked it over for me, sounds like it is pulling air thru exhaust when cranking, it'll suck in a flame from a lighter when u crank it. I looked quickly to see if terminals were backwards on battery, they were not. Any idea how they end up at this point? Why is it pulling air thru exhaust like that? Think it's a 4cyl v1505 engine
Plugged air filter?
Open intake, air filter is off
Do you know if the engine is equipped with an electric fuel shut-off? Has the fuse panel been checked for blown fuses? At 600 hours (from new?) it is probably something simple.
600hr total from new. Everything has fuel, fuel bleeds from all injector lines when cranking it over. All fuses good, the fuel solenoid clicks on pump when u turn key on, haven't pulled off to check it. Reason is because all lines have fuel when cranking with lines unscrewed from injectors. I'm almost wondering if from them pulling it out of shed, letting it sit and idle for a hr to charge battery, and it gets little use. I'm wondering if oil is old and it wasn't enough to lube valves and a couple hung up after it cooled off after shut off. I have to ask him that. How old is oil in machine? I did see it crank over with valve cover off and all valves look like they are moving when cranking. But wonder if they are carboned up from it idling and from older man use here and there. The amount of suction at muffler if pretty strong. It sucks the flame of a lighter right in and puts it out as soon as u crank it. Weird
Does it have glow plugs? Most Kubota's do. If the glow plugs aren't working or aren't turned on long enough would cause it to not start. You shouldn't use ether on it and on the same topic, how much ether was used trying to start it?
it might be worth inspecting the fuel injectors for any signs of clogging or failure.
Thats unlikely. How long did this machine sit? This is also unlikely @ 600 hours. Kubota engines are tough. They have always been very dependable in my experience. Does the engine smoke at all during cranking? They usually do when the glow plugs aren't used or working. They are difficult to start without the use of the glow plugs. I'm wondering 1. Do you have enough cranking speed? 2. Do the glow plugs work?
New glow plugs, don't worry about using ether, it didn't pop or fire off with 1 spray on open intake. Isn't going to hurt anything.
All it takes to fire a diesel engine is air, atomized fuel, compression of the air in the cylinder to create heat, and the fuel spray at the right time. It's not getting one of those.
You say it had fuel at the injectors while cranking. Did it spurt or just weep? If the injector lines are just cracked loose, it should spurt
Not to beat a dead horse, but just because the g plugs are new, doesn’t mean they’re getting POWER.. check the voltage at the rail..& how long your getting it.. Good luck
On my Kubota there is a mechanical fuel shut off knob. Check that and check the cable. There is also a timer relay under the dash that activates when you start the engine, momentarily energizing coil to override the fuel shut off. Then it times out and springs back to normal position. The fuse for that corroded on the back terminals on the power side of the fuse block, so my Kubota would not shut off with the key. The fuse blocks are known to corrode on the backside, so I would visually check and use a test lamp to verify. Unfortunately being late to this goat fun, with everything these chumps have done, there is no telling what else ails it. There is very little possibility that something was genuinely wrong with it other than something simple. Does this Kubota have emissions?
If you are getting suction on the exhaust with the intake open check the valve lash.
Check the elbows at the clear fuel bowl they always plug up with stuff from the tank. I take them off and use straight ones..
Already done
He said he did, and they were all good. That's why I'm leaning towards a stuck valve or 2 not fully closing. I didn't take it apart to this point, I was just asked to see what I think.
It doesn't even try to start on starting fluid. Fuel is not the issue. Has plenty of fuel at all injectors
Pull the glow plugs and compression check it
Suck squash bang blow.... sounds like compression test time? Did anything lead up to this? Noises?
Same problem with a case dozer right now 850k
Compression test, haven't had a chance to go back to buddys to look at his tractor, nor has he just because to busy at moment. But comp test is next
