can anyone tell me how to disassemble a kx121-3 final drive? 8 of the 9 bolts holding the drive sprocket on have sheared off in the flange and if possible i want to replace the flange or get the bolts out instead of having to buy a new drive. the drive works fine so i'd rather not have to buy a new one.
Why not attempt to remove the offending remnants of the bolts with the final on the machine? Are they just broken off or are the female threads damaged?
The bolts are broken off slightly recessed in the housing. I have tried ease outs to remove them but no dice.
If you can drill them, open them up till they're pretty thin, apply some heat through the hole in the center of the broken bolt till it's just red then let it cool... will usually shrink them enough so you can spin them out. Worst case, keep drilling till you can install some Heli-coils or thread inserts. Just my $.02 worth. Good luck, Lanway
I think its best to remove drive, lift side with broken bolts with boom, get the track out of your working area.make the work area clean as possible Get some hose plugs to prevent hydraulic fluid leaking out once the 4 hoses are disconnected from drive, unbolt drive and cover/plug open drive ports and take to machine shop unless you can get those broken bolts out. Just my thought, they may have been loose for some time and threads/flange may need help...its odd that 8 of 9 bolts broke at one time. If taking to machine shop take sprocket too. Good luck.
Thanks for the suggestions, I used Lanways idea, drilled them out and heated them with a torch, they came right out. Took me about an hour and a half sunday to reinstall and put the track back on, works great!
