A 60" bucket with a bolt on cutting edge (BOE) would do quite nicely and it wouldn't put too much stress on the lower bucket pins & bushings.

690 I would not put a 60 inch bucket on a 690A. The stick is not made to take the twisting side load of a 60 inch bucket. If you do be real careful in how you dig. I know a couple guys that tried a 60 inch bucket on 690A's and only one guy did not tear up his stick, he is a good operator and was digging slop.

Which of the older models is the actual 200 size, maybe I'm thinking of the 790. I remember the 490 was the 120 size back in my youth.

The 690A is not a 200 class excavator, it is about a 130 to 150 size excavator depending on how it was equipped. It was not until John Deere came out with the 690E were the 690's a 200 class excavator. (The 690E is really a little heavier and will lift more than a 200 John Deere that replaced it.) The 690A had problems with the stick/boom if you twisted it a lot and a 60 inch bucket will twist a 690A stick/boom. John Deere fixed the stick/boom problem when they made the 690C excavator.

690A is about 37,000 lbs or more depending on the bucket, and 131 hp 690B is about 39,000 or more depending on the bucket ands tracks, and 131 hp 690C is about 40,000 to 41,000 or more depending on the bucket and tracks, and 125 hp 690D weight and hp is about the same as the C model 690E is 44,000 and up depending on bucket and tracks, and 130 hp. 200LC is 43,000 and up depending on bucket and tracks, and 140 hp And the current 200D LC is 49,000 and up, and 159 hp. Also Hunt Tractor has a 60" clean up bucket for a 690.

I think a 48" high capacity would be safe for the A model.
