Hi, I am looking to buy a diesel powered Ditch witch 2310 trencher but it had a few issues I'm hoping somebody could help me with before making an offer on it ... Some items of concern are : 1) The engine only shuts off when the emergency engine shut off is actuated (it cuts air to the engine I think) ... why is this emergency use only ? the sticker says regular use could harm the engine (2 cyl deutz (sp)_ diesel) .... why is that and how is the engine normally shut off (does not shut off with the key). 2) The main transmission will not move out of the gear it is in ..... owner and one other person seemed to think it was a broken shift fork .... how painful (expensive) is that to fix or repair ? could it be something else ? like not having it in the transport mode instead of the dig mode on the lever? have to use clutch to move the lever? 3) the hydraulic level on the hydraulic tank was low (not on the sight glass) would the keep the chain from moving ? all the hydraulics seemed to work BUT the chain could not be made to move ... the belts on the drive for the chain seemed to be good. 4) Anything else to look at ? engine has a few leaks that made starting hard and it may need washers near the injectors since it was puffing and smoking a bit near the injectors. Sounds like a basket case so the price better reflect all the work it will need based on shop rates not some guy they know of. Some things could be very simple like a blown fuse or catastrophic like a blown pump or motor. No way to tell without doing some diagnostics.
