Thought you would all like to know that Madill (Sidney, BC) is currently manufacturing a 124 swing yarder, expected to be complete this year.
Good to hear
Any plans on building any Madill 120 machines?
We need pictures!!! d.d.
YES, I second that, we NEED photos!
Just to clarify this is the first 124 made in north america since 2010ish? And can someone tell me how many brightwater have made to date.
Brightwater is currently building machine 5 and 6. 12450 was the last machine built up there as far as I know. It must have been 2007 or 2008? Can't remember exactly but I worked around it when it got to NZ brand new.
Report on the first Brightwater Madill 124. http://youtu.be/ozDjEN3PD8A (nz Madill 124 #1 after 4 months of operation) NZ #1 in construction http://youtu.be/EHpVvm2kqbY http://www.brightwater.co.nz/manufa...-3/forest-equipment-2/plc-air-control-system/ Will the Canadian built 124 be built to the Brightwater spec with the 'floor window' and all the other changes?
Brightwater are to stop making the Madill, July is the cutoff for new NZ orders. Is this written on the net anywhere? Brightwater are looking to enhance the BE 70 and BE 85 if they make new tower haulers in NZ. Ballpark figures would a new 85 tower be about three quarters of the cost of a new 124 swing yarder?
That's interesting to read Plebeian. I would of thought that the madill range would have brought in enough money that Brightwater could build both model ranges. One of those video clips the Brightwater interview of the first build the guy said they could build the 124, 120, or the 172. I guess time will tell if this was the right move.
I wonder if a brightwater designed swing yarder is on the cards for the future?
Not sure if this question should be in the other madill thread or not. Did Brightwater make any other madills other than the 124s?
Only the 124 was built in NZ

"12449 was the last built in USA they restarted at 12451 for the first NZ made machine," was what Brightwater & Mr. Tuor told me.
Correct, they had the rights and license to build 120's, 124's and 172B's but no one ordered any of the 120's or the 172's before the cutoff date of July...
Madill 124 nearing completion at factory.
Wheres this one headed?
First Nicholson built 124 yarder completed April 2015
Good looking machine guys!
Madill Equipment, a Nicholson Manufacturing company, announced today the completion of the first Madill 124 swing yarder to be manufactured in Canada since 2007. Madill was founded as a blacksmith shop in Nanaimo BC in 1909 and during the 1950’s began manufacturing equipment for the forest industry. In 1955 the first spar tree yarder was invented and over the next 55 years Madill manufactured over 4,000 forestry machines including yarders, log loaders and feller bunchers, making them a world leader in purpose built forestry equipment. During the collapse of the forestry industry in 2008, Madill went into bankruptcy and in 2011 Nicholson Manufacturing acquired the assets and IP of this leading forestry brand and began manufacturing the machines in Sidney BC, Canada. Since that time over 100 log loader and feller buncher machines have been manufactured at the Nicholson facility on Galaran Road in Sidney BC. “Madill was best known worldwide for manufacturing yarders and there are hundreds of machines still operating today, some of them 30 and 40 years old” said Doug Jeffrey, President of Nicholson Manufacturing. “The forest industry is seeing a resurgence in new yarder demand due to the necessity to harvest second growth timber on steep slopes that were last harvested back in the 1970’s and ‘80’s” Jeffrey continued, “and we are proud to be manufacturing these machines locally, right here in BC”. “Completing the 124 swing yarder is a significant milestone for us as a local manufacturer and employer, and also for the forest industry as a whole as focus has increased on creating safer working environments in steep slope harvesting operations” said Jeffrey. “In addition to the 124 swing yarder, we are also underway with manufacturing our first Madill 172 tower yarder, the last one having been manufactured in 2006” Jeffrey continued. “The 124 swing yarder is a popular machine in B.C. and New Zealand, and the 172 tower yarder is the machine of choice for the U.S. Pacific Northwest. We’ve sold the first 124 swing yarder to a New Zealand customer, and have already taken three orders on 172 tower yarders from U.S. customers with delivery beginning June 2015” Jeffrey stated.

Mr. Swenson’s past experience with the brand ensures a perfect alignment with Madill’s philosophy and commitment to maximum uptime and productivity of its forestry machines” Jeffrey stated. Are 2 and 3 heading to New Zealand as well?
Fantastic looking new machines, good to see it's happening.
Are there any plans to make the 120 again?
She's coming along nicely. This machine is headed for Australia, and the third is staying in BC.

Another 124 leaves the Madill factory - this one is heading to a customer in Australia
124106 I'm breaking her in, she's a beauty.
Now, if we could get a 10 guyline, SP or track mount with the 046 style hoist & a 110' tube. Oh the wishing......
We need video. That's a really nice looking machine.
You might drive down sometime to Summit Attachments with your request list.
Here is murk smashing it out.
Looks a bit of a fake video. Real world would clearing the chute better than that. Would expect the swing yarder to have the track machines in shot or skidder etc two staging to another skid area etc.
That would have been one of the first days they had it. Went up and checked it out the other day and they had the whole crew going
No thanks, they are just into hydraulic winch systems. They build too much heat and eat too much fuel for me.
