Maybe over heating

ktm250rider · 2010-09-06 18:08

Well, i thought i solved my first problem on my used excavator (96 hyundai 130LC-3). I had a warning light come on that took some time figuring out what it meant. No manuals yet. After a little thought, figured it had to be some sort of coolant issue. Sure enough the overflow was empty. Topped that off and the light went out, all good right! After running today for about 3-4 hours, the hydraulics started getting very slow. Almost like it was too much to do 2 functions at a time and the engine seemed to be bogging. Shut it down and had a look out back. Nothing looked out of the ordinary. Im thinking maybe the engine was over heating.

Did you buy from a dealer?

No, private sale. Gonna change engine oil and check radiator for bubbles. I ordered a new thermostat, hopefully thats all it is.

Got home from work today and went out to investigate. Engine was very hard to start. Kept turning over. It would gargle a little but not start. I waited a few seconds tried again and it started up. Checked the coolant for any signs of air bubbles thinking i had head issues but didnt see any. Im gonna try to blow out the radiator tomorrow to make sure its not blocked. My try flushing it too. Could the hydraulic cooler be the issue and not the engine? THe pump is supposed to be brand new. Replaced by previous owner shortly before selling.

I'm just guessing, but it sounds more like a fuel delivery issue than a cooling issue. Perhaps a fuel filter or banjo fitting is getting clogged, or the engine may be losing its prime. Did you change the fuel filters after getting the machine? If its a cooling issue, the engine heat warning light would have come on. Does your machine have a working engine temp gauge?

Filters are coming the end of the week and will be changed. The temp gage on the control panel has been reading about 85°C. Ill need to check that tomorrow to be sure it was working.
