Nasty surprise the other day on my Hitachi ZX 55 USR

Hoghead · 2026-05-12 02:19

I had the left joystick in the up position when exiting the cab and accidently leaned against the joystick and the boom started moving towards my truck.. Luckily stopped it in time but apparently the switch inside that joystick did not break the circuit to the hydraulic system like it should and does with my other Hitachi. Does anyone know what i should be looking for when i take the cover off the joystick assembly? Is it an electrical switch not making a contact or broken wires ? hope it is something in that area instead of some mystery Relay hidden in the bowels of all the electrical jungle. Thanks

Just curious, does the engine start when the left joystick console is in the down position ? It shouldn’t start. Find the pilot shut off circuit electrical schematic and related verbage in 2 screenshots from the tech manual. .

Thanks for the replies Ares Techs and Diesel Dave. The engine does start when joystick is down and locked . Cab door has been open all the time while running and starting engine This has been an electrical nightmare for me and my mechanikc. i did print out a tech manual section covering electrical out of a 700+ page manual. Trouble is whoever did repair work earlier was not a mechanic wirth many piggybacked wires, wrong gauges mismatched color code splices etc. There are 3 relays in front and under the seat that had all wires cut to each relay so not sure if it was vandalism or to what purpose this would have been done. Don't even know what those relays are for. . There is a guy that wants to buy this machine and i told him about this problem which is a major safety concern. I will open it up and check for a bad switch or broken wires as suggested. Thanks, Ray

Looks like heater fan motor relays. Find 2 screenshots of all the relay locations. .

It does have AC but heater fan sounds right. There is a little door right next to the door with a lock so that might have been where the blower motor was mounted.
