was wondering what type of coolant to put in my bob cat skid steer s300.regular or do i have to use gm dex cool for aluminum radiators.thanks
my s300 is past the min mark on the coolant tank can i just add water to it since i dont have any coolant to add right now
Do you have purple, green, or orange coolant now? The purple is propylene glycol bio-friendly and cannot be mixed the orange or green ethylene glycol or so i was told. never tried mixing and don't want to be first either:beatsme:usa
does not look purple i believe its orange.can i add water in the tank for now?
you can pick up propolyne glycol (the eco friendly stuff) at any napa and most Wal Marts. It is the low toxic mix. Don't go straight water. Not only does pure water not have a high enough boiling point, it is corrosive under some circumstances in the aluminum radiator. The color doesn't matter. The new bobcat have a purple color but it is the type that matters. Get a heavy duty low tox propolyene and you will be good to go.
thanks i check them out
just got back and i looked at walmart, oriley napa was closed and autozone and could not find the low tox propolene coolant ,will regular hurt it.thanks
i dont know I really don't know, but a well established mechanic might, the dealer told me I could run either, but not to mix the two, and the guy at g&r told me not to mix them. I would let er sit until you could get the right stuff, but if you have to use her add water and drain it asap and check it with meter and mix appropriate for your weather conditions, but I offer no guarantees so attempt at your own risk.:beatsme:usa
A good mechanic isn't expensive, he's priceless! rangerfreak, if your coolants orange, that sounds like DexCool to me. You haven't told us if you've tested your antifreeze level to determine if it needs more coolant, or if you are safe to just add water. You should have a coolant drain valve just below the fuel injection pump that you can drain a good sample of your coolant and deterimine the color, also test the antifreeze level of your sample. If your coolant's purple, that's Bobcat Propylene Glycol. I wouldn't mix it with Ethylene Glycol or DexCool.
talked to the dealer they said it was not the best to run the green cooolant.i asked them about draining my coolant and they said i need to just take off a coolant hose and let if drain out i guess my question is will that completely drain the block of coolant as well, since i will be putting the official bobcat coolant in and i dont want the 2 to mix because they could gel up. also should i flush it with some prestone coolant flush as well.thanks
midway down on my engine there's a little spout with a petcock on it, that's where mine drains. Looked at some engine pic online but couldn't see anything like that, but a little gold extension low on the block next to the oil fill cap, it holds the oil drain hose up, but does it serve a double purpose I don't know?. But if that doesn't work, and you decide to flush it top off the system with water, and drain in too gallon containers and see how you get and compare it too you operators manual and see how much you get, and that will tell you how empty you got the system, flush it, fill er up, and run her! :usa
I doubt removing a hose will drain all that's in block. One hose connects to neck at thermostat housing, which is at top of engine. The other connects to neck on water pump, which is still higher than what's in block. You need to open the drain petcock below the injection pump. You can use coolant flush if you want, sure won't hurt. You just want to make sure you flush the system sufficient to remove old coolant.
right where the oil filter is there is a hose for coolant to flow through and you can pull that off and get the majority out thats where i drain them from there isn't a drain on a s300 kubota block on the smaller machines and older ones there is a drain to drain the coolant
ended up putting greeen coolant in the machine with no problems so far.i called the bobcat dealer and asked them and they said it would be fine for a short period of time but to bring it in as soon as i could.
I have ran the green in the past and did not have any problems. It was in an older machine 2001, I sold it a few years ago and it's still going strong.
thanks everybody for your help and for answering my questions
