Hey nice place you have here, lot of good info. I just got a 1988 John deere 410c 4x4. I was wondering if anybody has manuals for this machine? Something i can print out. Owners and service manual would be great. Other question is how do i engage disengage the 4x4 on this unit? I know its the litle lever on the floor but how does it work? The machine has 6031hrs on it and i believe it be true hours because of the shape of the machine. I ran newer machines fro 5-6 years cat 426, JCB 214 215 but not this old of one. Anyhow Thanks in advance
When you push the pedal on the floor board, it operates a spool in a control valve that sends fluid pressure to a clutch pack that engages drive train to front axle.
Ok thanks, also is the hydrolic reservoir incorperated inside the transmision and diff housing? Where do you check the level? thanks
Oil level dipstick is mounted to right front of tranny case. You should be able to crawl under machine and locate dipstick piping and figure out where to access dipstick from topside.
Does is just take regulat 32 or 68 hydrilic fluid or something special? Just wondering since their are a couple of small leaks and i want to check it and top it off before putting it to work. Is 2B on the drawing the filler hole?
You need to use Tractor Transmission oil because the machine has wet brakes. There are aftermarket Tractor Trans oils out there, but you may find you get brake chatter using aftermarket oils. If that happens, I would recommend using Deere Hy-Gard. That would be my first choice anyway if you can afford it, it's a little spendy.
Right on thanks. So to fill it up is it on top of the transmision? Like your drawing part 2 b?
Most likely you fill through dip stick tube. Items 2A and 2B are both breathers.
