No low gear front or back 951c

I have a 70's 951 that won't go into 1st gear forward or reverse, it will go into second and third forward and reverse but only if I shift passed 1st quickly and at least half throttle. if I shift slow it won't go into any gear. a little back story...got machine stuck in mud working on a pond. in the meantime heavy rain set in while trying to get a plan! Water half way up radiator with machine leaning forward.Bought small excavator to dig out dam realized leak in torque converter cooler so made "U" out of iron pipe and couple of elbows and bypassed cooler. Drove it out in 2nd gear reverse. Used it a little since then. Demolished a rock house and pushed a few trees just using 2nd gear. not sure where to start looking trans or torque... any ideas anyone? any advice would be very much appreciated

Best thing would be to post the full serial number and maybe someone with access to service information on SIS might be able to give you some ideas on pressure checks for the drivetrain. Other than that the best idea I could suggest would be to pull oil filter and suction strainer for the transmission to see if there is any crap in those. Might also want to check here: https://www.servicemanualpro.com/ Enter S/N and see if service manual is available. If you are planning on keeping and using this machine the cost might be well worth it in time saved trying to stumble through problems. And if you even save calling a dealer to come out one time I bet that will cost you more than the CD version of the manual.
