This picture show's the frost point that was used on my dad and uncles 25 Northwest backhoe. The dipper stick was removed off the backhoe boom and the point installed. The hoist sheave and brackets for the stick pin and drag sheaves were hooked up same as the dipper.I just have it hoisted up on a hook for the picture. It was a fairly effective tool in the days before the hydraulic breaker. My dad said they broke up to eight feet of frost with it,usually in two foot lifts. That must have been a character building experience with those short tracks, long levers and more or less a bicycle seat to sit on.Usually started off to a side were the frost was'nt to thick and worked over from there.Basically just pick up and dropped. The picture was taken about ten years ago,and the machine is still around and operational.Have 40' crane boom, drag, clam buckets, frost point and backhoe attachment.
