Hey I have a mustang 2050 that has started leaking oil. Pardon my ignorance but could anyone tell me what exactly the part in the attached picture is? It’s leaking right by the arrow. That is looking toward the rear right above the left side drive. There is a hose into the back of that block that goes to the hydraulic oil filter and another one that goes to the radiator or I assume oil cooler.
Just a wild guess, but it looks like a pressure switch.
It might be an idea to get in there with a bit of aerosol brake cleaner or similar and try to clean off the oil. Then once it's clean start the machine and you should be able to see exactly where the leak is. You might be lucky and find it's nothing more than the O-Ring seal between that switch and the block that is leaking.
If it's anything like a coolant temperature sensor in the block, they can develop leaks. I had to replace a temp. sensor that was leaking where the wire screwed in.
Thanks so much everyone!!! So I got it out and it appears to be a pressure switch made by Hobbs. Does anyone know where I could find a parts manual online and get a part number? Having trouble finding it.
It appears that the switch is leaking internally.
Are there any markings on it other than it's made by Hobbs..? Maybe a reference number, Here's a link to the complete Hobbs Catalogue - https://stevenengineering.com/Tech_Support/PDFs/77MAIN.pdf
I couldn't find an online parts catalog, just lots of places selling them. Yeah if it's a Hobbes it should have a number.... CAT often is a good source for pressure switches also. Another guess, it's the charge pressure switch? Try turning the key on with the switch plugged in, doesn't have to be screwed in place. The charge light or alarm should come on. Unplug the wires and see if the light/alarm goes out. Dealers: W.R. SCOTT EQUIPMENT LTD. W.R. Scott Equipment is about 2 minutes away from where I live. They've been a Mustang dealer for quite a few years and should have a decent parts stock. They were the Bobcat dealer from 1967 till about 1982 when the recession hit hard. At the time Bobcat would buy back machines from dealers. They sent back over a million dollars worth of machines and lost the Bobcat dealership in the process. They've had several brands of equipment over the years and lost as many brands but have had Mustang for a long time. They're good for rental attachments and have a full machine shop. Way back when they were also a Hobart welder dealer.
I think there's as much luck and intuition to predicting those boom/bust cycles as anything, some dealers seem to forge through them more or less unscathed, others, like myself, always seem to be smashed flat even if we can see them coming.
