So, to get After treatment systems to function on ANY form of use trucks, Cummins is ADDING a 48v Dedicated Alternator to the Heater in the Next Gen After Treatment System 2027. To COMPENSATE for Excess Weight of the mechanism and the Increase in After Treatment System weight, may Covers, small component casings and the engine oil pans will be of Lightweight Plastics. Heard this from a Cummins Rep at work this afternoon. I was reading a Brochure he had handed out where that indicated Belt Driven Engine Side Mounted, got a Nay Nay Moose Breath as that is being RECONFIGURED to be INTERNAL to the engine Bell Housing as the Belt system could not manage time of use within a reasonable parameter. All to compensate for a system that functions WORTHLESSLY on Vocational Line Equipment.
Oh goody--think of it this way--at your age you should be rubbing your hands together like a fly. You nor I will ever have to contend with this stuff anyway. I like the fact as we go out, we had the best of it, we had all the hot- gas eating boomer toys, cool this cool that. The cool stuff was built in the 50' 60's & 70's. Now what's left is Muskrat EV's, Start hoping for Semi EV's those will be a total disaster, it won't matter to us though we will have one foot in the grave.
I do realize change is inevitable, just cannot fathom the intensity of useless ***** has been applied over the last ten and moving into the next years.
Just what age group and generation do you suppose is designing/building this useless ****. Cause it ain't boomers.
I don't think a single engine manufacturer has ever improved an engine's emissions without having been forced to by the government. All the emissions equipment on diesel engines is a result of government policymakers decisions during the Clinton, Bush and succeeding administrations. All of whom happen to be Boomers . . .
Of course-----boomers helped, but by the time the policy was enacted boomers kids built it. The first emission device---1966---Ford Thermactor, then came just egr, then came converters. Boomers parents started the design and use phase. Boomers just traded in their hippy wardrobe for a suit and tie, boomers created the PC pushed and trained their offspring in computer science and the rest is history. * But all of the diesel engine manufactures knew this was coming all the way back in the 70's. And what did they do?---They kicked the can down the road and kept kicking it instead of early testing----all because of the term {bottom line} and keeping investors happy. * Does anyone really think privet enterprise gave a **** years ago or now about dirty air unless they are told to clean it up, of course not, people can't police their own actions, it's about the MONEY and only the money. of the corporation, by the corporation, for the corporation.
People who designed the boomer toys weren't boomers, it was all about marketing a whole new cultural shift. Aimed at boomers and boomers just couldn't buy enough of the toys. Boomers are just a starting place for what has become. CARB approves unprecedented climate action plan to shift world’s 4th largest economy from fossil fuels to clean and renewable energy | California Air Resources Board The California Air Resources Board today approved the final proposed 2022 Scoping Plan, a world-leading roadmap to address climate change that cuts greenhouse gas emissions by 85% and achieves carbon neutrality in 2045. Fat chance of a snowball chance in Hell. Renewables in CA are a issue not a advantage. All the roof solar at low use periods force base load to reject power, all those solar panels require a baseload fixed reference Voltage and Frequency to connect to grid and when flitters trips them all in a region. No Base Load station and these panels are great for roof shading ONLY, not stand alone.
The problem with these ‘Designers’ is they set a parameter and type of emission control, someone else actually designs and builds to that set of factors. Much as at the nuke the initiator lacks Physics, general Math and Chemistry detailed education plus no to little contact with real world installations, tends to build a POS they can demonstrate on a Dyno or in a continuous pull run but fails to reality that not all run or are operated this way. First LO Sulphur Diesel was going to fix particulate levels, failed, moved to remove as much as theoretically possible, Failed. Removal of a BTU source demanded more fuel consumed to produce same power, generated similar particulates at every step. In a Perkins and several other engine line information they cite a AI definition of DOC Systems. Removes Carbon Monoxide from a exhaust stream that produces next to none, “.05%” is typical. End discharge produces Water Vapor, duh, DEF is 62.5% water, steam is water expanded by 100 times by heat. “Captures” 20-30(potential) percent of exhaust particulates, actuality os closer to 15-20% the remainder is Ejected thru exhaust stream as is smaller than filter can capture. Is absolutely Passive, the bigger lie. What is not ever answered is there will be a quantity of the Ammonia developed by the activation heat in the Catalyst bed, that is also exhausted to what health damage coefficient.
But look at the jobs it's creating, if cali thinks it will work--that's their issue when it doesn't.
Not knocking you Dave, but where did you get all that info from because most of that is quoting someone's authority.
Out here in the midwest, we are losing farmland daily to these ugly solar farms. Wind farms too. Not a fan. Not thrilled with replacing all my AC equipment either. I see farmers having to use more and more anhydrous ammonia every year also, because we're taking the NOx out, which would naturally come back to the ground in rain replacing lost Nitrogen . Do I mind a cleaner, quieter exhaust tone, no. Do I think it should have been shoved up our @$$es, no. Not at all. The government has emissions exemptions, but not the everyday citizen crushed under economic forces to maintain emissions experiments. I do like what I'm hearing about tier V or stage V. I'm being told that compression ratios will be brought back up to increase power accompanied by no more EGR and higher rail pressures. These things alone will reduce particulate matter, which lessens the need for frequent regen. The solution for EGR is DEF injection. Up to 5X more depending on load and use. The downside, that I see coming... I don't think we have the metallurgy to support these heats and pressures. I'm thinking there's gonna be a lot of liner migration and core shift in the core blocks. Time will tell.
That correlates with what I've read, Ceramics.
Looked up Diesel DOC system Pages of same information from EPA thru every manufacturer AI wrote the answer out The base physics and Math I already knew.
Time to go back to horses. My daughter would be happy anyway . . .

The major part the regulators do not ever concede, of all the gases in air N2, O2, Argon make up 99%, ALL of the pollutants are pieces of the first two and are actually a component of the Final .8% of atmosphere. Less than 1% which includes all of the other gases combined. Water Vapor is the biggest contributor to heat retention but cannot be fought, along with the singular fact all the oxides of N2 and the Carbon based gases as CO2 CO are plant matter absorbed every minute of every hour of every day by Vegetation. As with every action certain agencies have attempted over the years, none have been for a betterment. The forestry service tried to ‘Stop all Forest Fires’ nature does not relent and seems arsonists are as bad is the most visible example. Farms currently add Sulphur to fertilizer applications, several decades ago was not even considered. NASA and NOAA placed satellites to monitor Sulphur Dioxide pollutants in upper atmosphere and found as the values decreased heating at surface increased by same percentages especially in Ocean Surface waters. Played it down yet evidence still is present and growing. As with the newly found Ozone ‘Hole’ in Antarctica in the 1970s, leaps of faith to stop all refrigerants use had supposedly Fixed as it shrank, then it returns and shrinks repeatedly. Have not ever received a answer other than word salad as to how all the world’s refrigerants migrated to S Pole leaving no trails of damage or destruction to the thin and fragile Ozone blanket they would have had to have traveled thru to get there. Is avoided at all cost in a answer.
Prime topic against all these so called Protection Games is the money spent. Much for dubious values against more dubious damage repairs that seem to not ever be defined after located as a priblem as to that repair. Most revolves around making Department Jobs not for fixing anything and costing ever more in Fines fed into the big gamers hands. Black Holes that never answer where does that money go just enters never to be seen again. Fits the picture of a self feeding watermelon, eats itself to grow so can feed harder, never completes, never really grows, just a self imposed cancer.
Sorry just having a little trouble with all these scientific findings all jumbled together in a layman's forum.
Taxation and regulation will stop man's destruction. In reality, Earth doesn't care, we're insignificant. It will continue to clean itself, provide for itself and sustain all of us far beyond what we can imagine now. As mentioned above, these things are cyclical. Just like the tides, but slower. No government entity is going to change anything except keep us all in check via taxes and regulations to stop the "smog monster" Which BTW, was a great villain for Godzilla.
True to some extent------In 1963 a mirror was placed in a cage at the NYC zoo, the inscription read---{your looking at the earths most dangerous animal}. The earth doesn't have a mind, cyclical is a very over used word--for the nay.
We owe our existence to the fact that there is a thin layer of top soil and it rains.
I think I said that before on here, a ways back, but also a little standard type fire.
If you look at the history of the earth it's clear that our impact is negligible. Emissions are a power grab and for anyone to call it something else is either inept or evil
That all depends on which side of the fence who wrote the history is standing on. Right along with who's reading it, because no two people ingest information the same, if it doesn't fit their own slant---------- it's all bogus to them.
History of the earth has not much to do with the last 200,000 years
Yeah--just throw the last 200,000 out with the bath water. oh boy.
No point in trying any harder.
Yeah that last 0.000004% of Earth's history is not significant, that's like the last 6.5 hours of a 65 year old.
A little too much righty mighty.
I don't like the goat **** tank or all the sensors and computers on the new engines. But I sure like being able to start one in my enclosed shop and run it for a half hour and not even be able to smell it was running.
There is a real danger in that. The really bad stuff is still there, you just don't realize it.
Just probably the most common bad statement made about the subject. The issue got it's roots in 1880, the start of industrial revolution. * Yes the almighty deep state power grab.
What i fail to grasp is that if all the worlds manufacturers centralize there poluting to one or 2 areas that don't abide by the rules that then doesn't that negate all the good of any other solution Ibam of the theory that if the world that if the world still ran on 3406e and n14 the emissions regulation wouldn't really be needed any way cause the simple answer of making said motors more fuel efficient would lower particulate matter emissions any way and also factor in how much energy has been consumed to make the current engineering work at scale and the complexity of manufacturing all the tech to run it there can't possibly be any gains made But if tier V is going to do away with egr then that's a plus on some of my newer iron egr has been done away with and it's especially noticable in the oil not crazy but it's a noticeable difference this should lead to better efficiency because of higher compression ratios

Huh, they taught us in school that the industrial revolution started 100 years before that, and really got in full swing in the early 1830's or so. But I guess you guys are talking evolutionary time spans, so what's a hundred years or so? Carry on!
Oh wise owl--voice of reason----------there were two industrial revolutions, 1770's & 1870's. The second industrial revolution is marked and determined as the use of steam power to create mass production, which as we all know was coal fired and advanced everything right from the coal mine to the steal for RR. The second revolution is where pollution got it's leg up going another 100 years before the start of the anti- emission/pollution revolution-1970. It is noted that every hundred years or so a light comes on. * Industrial Revolution - Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org

I have so much hate and anger towards these "policies " that are ruining our way of life. It really was a great place for a civilized society, until we let politicians steer the ship, without our consent.
The possibility of the ginormous Fan with blades five miles long spinning way faster than anyone thought will get closer to the ten mile long turd in waiting.
Yes,Most of it revolves around creating departmental jobs that don’t actually fix anything, while continually increasing fines that end up flowing into the hands of big players.
