old d4e hard to start longer it runs loses power gauges in the green running out of fuel changed fuel filter helped but did not fix
First, check your air filters. Check your fuel line coming from the tank. Make sure it is not leaking or pinched. Also check for a blockage at the bottom of the fuel tank, where the line feeds from the tank. Just a couple of cheap/free/easy suggestions that we have run into over the last couple of months. What is your serial number? JCS
checked the air filters they were in bad shape, the fuel line had been by passes around the water separator so i am going to go a head and replace the fuel and hook the water separator back up the fuel line it real soft. also found a leek on a injector line right at the pump. #72x00662
If its got a sleeve metering fuel pump on it. Side of fuel pump is rectangular with a bolt on side plate you may be in trouble if some idiot has bypassed the water seperator. Carefully remove the side cover. If the internals of the pump are full of water and rusty looking. You will be looking at a fuel pump rebuild. The old scroll type pumps are alot more forgiving. But most US built machines that made it downunder had sleeve metering pumps and these were mainly trouble. Interestingly japanese built cat D4Es all had the old scroll pump. Merv
blockage at the bottom of the fuel tank thanks dblaneyfan.
