Hello i have an older D21-P6 and have a problem getting her started . Thought the ignition switch was the issue changed that out 1 terminal at a time to insure i didnt cross wires . Still wont lite off new batteries and Started later . I am seeing a regulator that is in line to the glow plugs and the 2 wire pig tail going to the altenator is in poor shape. would some 1 have an idea what may be going on ? When i turn the key to the glow plug side i did have a light on the dask and i coiuld get the dozer to start . the glow plug light is not coming on and when i turn the key to the start position still no power to the starter . The neutral safty switch is closed or made in the transmission selector while the machine is not ingaged . Thank you for your help . Steven
Are you saying that the engine turns over very well, just no smoke out the pipe. Did the glow plug light come on before, but now it does not. If you take your wires off the ignition switch and put X-number of red tywraps or whatever colour you want on one wire and the terminal it was on ,all marked on a sheet of paper, it may help to figure out what is going on. You could disconnect the glow plug feed wire and with an ohm meter find out which wire at key switch needs to go on the glow plug terminal. Is the cranking speed fast or slow. Is this a 1 or 2 battery system, just for info. Do you own or someone you know have a digital volt meter. Maybe can help, could fix easily if I was there, but sorry to far. Simon C
It sounds like the starter isn't engaging. Is it possible to short the starter to see if it will turn over?
There is no power going to the starter to turn over . I have chacked the neutral switchand it is closed to allow power to the starter wiring and i did replace the starter .
Jump at the solenoid, meaning use a remote start switch, some just use a screw driver.
