I have a D4H that had rippers added to it at some point. The way its plumbed now is controls for the blade angle function can be deverted via a selector valve thats plumbed past the main valve body to either control the blade angle or the ripper up/down function. Kinda ghetto and PITA. My question is why couldn't you tee off the main line from the pump and run it through a heavy duty log splitter type valve with the return teed back. See pix. Please let me know if this change will work?
SORRY ...the first pic should show a valve a/b selector ...NOT log splitter valve.
No, a log splitter valve is typically an open center valve, meaning it doesn't block the flow until the valve is operated. Is your Cat open center or closed center system? If you knew how to convert a valve from open to closed center and you knew what type of system you had, i don't think you'd be asking.
Your right im grasping at straws here. I do see your point on the "log splitter" type control valve with a open center vs closed. With a open center nothing else would work...all your working pressure would be bypassing the blade valve body...right?
Why not go looking for a Cat ripper control valve in the equipment breaking community and plumb the ripper to factory standards..? I think this is what you ought to be looking for.
Right. You could make it closed center which it looks like yours is. By the time you do the plumbing, it might be easier to get the right valve like Nige says. the other consideration is if you want a float function (none on a log splitter), or the return detent that you get with a log splitter valve.
