I just got a case cx160 excavator 2006 and it dose not have a patternchanger on it. I'm the only one how runs it and would like it to be cat controls can i just switch the hoses or is that not recomended. Thanks:notworthy
As long as you switch the right hoses you will be fine.
In most machines with a multi pattern way of running the controls, there should be some diagrams in the operators or service manual as to how to swap the hoses to obtain your desired pattern. I know our 1996 CAT 312 had them shown, we never switched, but it did have the outline if you chose too. Trbo
did the dealer tell you that there is no pattern changer? sometimes there is a switch that is out of sight.
your op manual will tell you which pilot control hoses to change around if you don't have a selector switch
Section 8-28 of your parts book..."pilot control lines-model with load hold & control selector valve" show you where the valve is located. If you switch pilot lines remember to switch them BEFORE the control valve, at a pilot manifold or common junction point. You want to switch them as close to the pilot controllers themselves to be sure you will not mess up a potential other function such as, shuttle valve, lock valve, 2nd spool etc. It is always safe to switch lines as long as the switch is made before any "t" in the pilot circuit. Also on some machines the arm and boom have different pilot controllers for arm and boom. The pressure reducing portion of the control can be of a longer stroke design to eliminate the speed/inertia jerking found in some machines. Some dealers that had jerky complaints from customers would change out the controller to the longer stroke version to smooth operation but would only put in one and not both ergo the control switch now would make the unjerky function jerky and visaversa.
