I read something about alot of mines looking for operators. Why not post some of the names of them and contact info, and what kinda machine it is they have openings on.
OK, take a look at last Sunday's Arizona Republic classified's (Phoenix). Go to the "look for a job section." Check out the Tucson paper too. You should find, if I remember right, four very large mining-company ads for all kinds of miners, including operators. I search usually, for operator, or equipment operator. That will get you all kinds of "operator" jobs, but you can fine-tune your search. These are all copper mines, and you better bring your own house with you to live in and a patch of dirt to park it on. There is almost nothing left in a hundred miles or more in any direction to rent or buy at any price. One outfit is putting up a barracks with a cafeteria. You can work seven on, seven off. There are other alternative work schedules available so I'm told. The money is good, 20-25 bucks an hour for most operating positions, some get a little more depending on the machine and operators experience. Benefits are good. Work is very steady at present, but with copper, don't sell the home farm, you'll likely be back there in a year or two or three. Another very interesting source of job openings is: http://www.infomine.com/careers/ There are jobs posted on this site from around the world. Many job postings are open, meaning anyone can look at them and respond with a resume. Most are available by subscription to infomine only. This is an excellant site for all kinds of mining information. I've heard that the Aussie's are planning on setting up Shanghi operations along the Pacific Coast water fronts again, to fill the thousands of trades jobs they have open. Good Luck!
I agree why not have a classifieds section on the forum??
Work here in Juneau http://www.greenscreek.com/recruiting.html http://www.kensingtongold.com/jobs.html Both places always have openings. Better be able to pass a **** test or don't even bother to try. Cost to get here by air for a nonadvance ticket is around $400, specials run around $200 one way. By ferry out of Bellngham Wa. is around the same $400 when you include the 3 days on the boat with meals and that is without a car. add another $800 to $1000 depending on the size of car/truck. Housing runs anyware from $750 for a rundown trailer to $1400 for a 3 bedroom nice place per month. New homes are starting around $3000,000 some a little less and some a little more. Not many homes on the market for less then $200K. Oh did I say it has been known to rain a bit here so if you need the sunshine this is not the place to live. Last winter A little under 200 inches of snow. over 280 days of rain. summer daylight runs up to 20 hours a day and winter 20 hours of dark. spring and fall is 50/50. Oh that is right miners work underground here and don't need any of that information. LOL Dwan
Dwan, what about strip mines? Dozer type jobs? And what about the gas pipeline, whens that gona happen?
If you are looking for a job in Alaska, look for postings for the Red Dog Mine. I saw an ad for there very recently.
Coupple of years before the pipeline starts. There is a local hire law that says anyone with a year of residency has first choice. There is always work in Alaska. We are hoping to build a$400,000,000 40 mile road out of Juneau within the next few years. Hope it gets started soon (I can help).
Dawn I remember stories when I was a highschooler about the Alaska pipeline, and how some guys brought their own dozers up there to work on the pipeline project. And they made so much money they just parked their cats when they were done and left. So when these projects start will they be looking for owner operators like that? I would love to find some big job for an owner operator that pays real good, good enough to go purchase a nice new big dozer to do it, pay it off and retire to boot. Any such thing available? Any where, well except a war zone.
There may have ben 1 or 2 storys floating around like that but chances of that happing are very slim. The only way one could make sure she was set for life, pay for all her equipment and leave everything behind would be to buy a motor home, move up here during the pipline and braing as many of her female friends and You figure the rest. As far as owner operators, durning the last oil line there were a few that worked there equipment but not many. I suspect the only jobs for O/O will be for support services and truckers. Why these projects make you money is not because of the pay so much but because of the hours you get to work, overtime, and there is no place to spend it so it just piles up. Dwan
