Pressure relief question?

Hey guys! This should maybe be in the "old iron" section...but.. I have a 1969 ** 40 backhoe. Hasn't been working right since I bought it. Asked lots of questions and finally figured out what the main pressure relief valve looked like and how it worked etc. Took it apart. Everything looked ok. Was told to screw the spring adjusted screw in a half turn at a time til an improvement happened. Well..it only took 3/4 of a turn before everything came alive again. Problem is...the adjuster screw has an acorn nut that's supposed to screw on top of it after the adjustment is made. The adjuster screw is in so far now that the nut will just go on a half turn. It leaks a bit of oil thru the screw slot now. Question...would you normally just replace the spring...to put you back to a reasonable adjustment for the screw? There's not really a shimming option here. Do hydraukic shop keep springs of different rates etc? Thanks! Russ

Rob..this one is located under the valve body for the FEL(it's kinda upside down). There is another one...a preset one (2150 psi) in the valve bank for the hoe. Russ
